Understanding Love From the Bible

From the Bible we are taught about Faith, Hope and Love but they were always explained differently than what we used to use them in our world...in our everyday lives. Like for example, in 1 Thessalonians 5:8 when Paul reminded the Thessalonians about the importance of “putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation”.

These words are more than what they are spelled. There's always the unique biblical meaning for these words compared to our own understanding of the terms.

"And now these three remain...

FAITH, HOPE
LOVE
.
"

but the greatest of these is love.."

1 Cor 13:13

"Love", there can only be one basis to prove if "Love" is pure or false. The Lord said:

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud.."

1 Corinthians 13:4

Love is long-suffering and is never tired of waiting.

Love is Patient and it is design to correct all evils.

Love is Kind and it denotes to be good-natured. It is not arrogant and does not insult. It is not harsh, and does not desire to revenge. Love knows to forgive and move on. It is gentle and polite, and it wishes for happiness among us all.

Love is not Jealous. It does not envy over the happiness of another. It does not compare it's happiness or achievement with others. It is not cruel and has no high opinion of itself. Love feels contentment in heart and soul and gladness for everything in life. It rejoices for the happiness of another. Love is not selfish.

Whether our "love" is for our parents, spouse, sibling, child, friends etc,.love should always be unconditional.

I thought about this some time ago...the two most powerful human experiences that life can bring upon us are "Love and Pain". The most rejoicing experience that life can offer is to feel love and be-loved, while the most unpleasant experience is to feel emotional pain.

Surely human feelings are precious and delicate and mostly we can't handle pain so well. Pain is such a destructive inner force that can kill all the goodness inside us. It can trigger hatred, revenge and sometimes hurting our own self.

Love, on the other hand can bring everything together. Love restore what is lost and love alone can vanquish all evil.

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.."

1 John 4:8
Love has also been misunderstood in our society. It's true essence has been corrupted, tainted, and misused so that all manner of immoral practices are described as love. The Bible describes true love as unselfishness rather than self-seeking. It seeks for what is good for others rather than itself and is based on God, who is Love.
