All is Fair in Love and War

As the saying goes, "All is fair in love and war". One thing you will learn about love is that it can either make you grow or damage you completely. It is the most tender of things and on the flipside, it can lead to crimes of passion. You can say, "God is love" and at the same time say that "love is overrated". It is both a paradox and an irony. I'm sure I have read somewhere that it is like a stick-- at one end love, and on the other end hate. If you pick up one end, you will inevitable pick up the other. Everybody has his/her own meaning of it, that is why there is no clear definition. It can radicalize you or it can make you numb. It can make you happy, and at the same time bring you pain. It is what you will choose it to be, either consciously or unconsciously. It begins as an attraction, a hint of intimacy and even seduction. Attraction in the beginning is innocent. It has no idea how to express itselt. A hint of intimacy is like seduction in t...

All else will fail you but not Him

You started out going to mass and hearing the Gospel every Sunday. As you mature, questions begin to arise that raises doubt about your religious practice. You try to look for the answers but you get frustrated every time. You guess you have eaten the apple from the garden of Eden. You have acquired the knowledge of what is right and what is wrong. You begin to see ugly things in the garden-- that garden you saw once as beautiful. The beauties were just illusions, you now find out. But you still have your good heart-- so you think. You moved out of the garden. You became an atheist. Your process of becoming a nonbeliever was slow. You started by questioning the fate of Judas, one of the disciples of Jesus. He was so unlucky that he had to play the role of the traitor! Everybody would cond...

The Great Unknown

There is something about the unknown that naturally evokes very strong emotions. Just like the dark, a lot of people are afraid of it. Essentially because we can't see anything in the dark, thus, what lies in it is unknown. But thru experience, we are able to draw a mental picture of what lies in it. And we believe in that mental picture enough to rid us of the fear that we have experienced in the childhood days. Even before watching a movie, we tend to avoid conversations that will reveal the plot of the movie. We figured, knowing would lessen the fun and the thrill. The boss will always be frightening the first time we encounter him/her. But the more we know the boss, the more we know how to deal with him, and the less frightening he/she becomes. That's why high school life may be the most memorable for many. It is the time when usually we experience all that emotional highs aside from those infatuations. And at the same time, we can't really explain what they are. We j...
